How to create Binance API keys

Create a read-only Binance API key to connect your account securely.

Overview

Connecting Binance requires two credentials: an API Key and a Secret Key. There is no passphrase — unlike OKX, Binance does not require a third credential. Holdix only ever reads your balances and Earn positions — it never places orders, withdraws funds, or performs any write operations.

Step 1 — Open API Management

Log in to Binance and navigate to: Profile icon (top right) → Account → API Management Or go directly to: binance.com/en/my/settings/api-management Click "Create API" to start.

Step 2 — Choose a key type and set a label

Binance offers two key types: HMAC (SHA-256) — standard option, compatible with all tools. Ed25519 — newer elliptic-curve type, recommended for better security. Either type works with Holdix. Set a descriptive label such as "Holdix" so you can identify the key later, then click Next.

Step 3 — Set permissions to Read Only

"Enable Reading" is checked by default — keep it on. This is the only permission Holdix needs. Do NOT enable: — Enable Spot & Margin Trading — Enable Futures — Enable Withdrawals — Enable Internal Transfer — Enable Universal Transfer — Permits Universal Transfer — Permits Dedicated IA API Key Leave all of the above unchecked. Read-only access is sufficient to fetch all balance and Earn data.

Step 4 — IP restriction (optional but recommended)

For extra security you can restrict the key to specific IP addresses. If you access Holdix from a fixed server or VPN, add its IP here. Leave unrestricted if you use multiple locations. Note: Binance requires IP restriction for keys that have withdrawal permissions. For read-only keys it is optional.

Step 5 — Complete verification and copy credentials

Confirm the key creation with your 2FA method (authenticator app, SMS, or email verification). Binance will display: — API Key — Secret Key (shown only once — copy it immediately) Paste both into the "Connect Exchange" dialog in Holdix. Your credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before being stored — plaintext values are never saved.

Binance Earn balances

Flexible Savings and Locked Earn positions (Simple Earn) are synced automatically. The app normalises Binance's internal LD- prefixed asset names (e.g. LDBTC → BTC) so your Earn holdings appear alongside your spot balances.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid API key, IP, or permissions" — the API key or secret was copied incorrectly, or the key has been deleted. Recreate the key on Binance and paste the new values. "Timestamp for this request is outside of the recvWindow" — your device clock is out of sync. Sync your system clock and retry. IP restriction error — the key is bound to an IP that doesn't match your current address. Add your IP on Binance or remove the IP restriction. Permission denied for Earn endpoints — the key was created without "Enable Reading" or the account has no Simple Earn history. Ensure Read is enabled.
